Forgotten Toys
Forgotten Toys is a digitally designed unisex collection that combines conceptual pattern-cutting with textiles. Inspired by the contrasting creepiness and cuteness of the abandoned toys in my attic, this collection playfully reflects on the nostalgia of a bygone childhood.
Visual-kei, a Japanese movement and fashion style defined by shock and androgyny, has heavily influenced the styling and approach of the collection – leading me to incorporate the movement’s ‘visual violence’ through the act of destroying toys to create textile prints and finishes. Black, greys and bright yellows have been used throughout the collection, highlighting the fusion of eeriness and fun. The loose-fitting, kimono-like silhouettes were motivated by the idea that clothes should have no gender and that anyone, regardless of gender identity or age, can express their inner child – no matter the shock it may cause.
