My exhibit features four artworks: three paintings and one sculpture. After experimenting with various wet media, I found oil paint yielded the best results. I use the human figure to express ideas, often inspired by everyday humour, and I utilise digital software for consistent compositions.
Each painting centres around a main subject performing a foolish or uncanny action, using natural and earthy tones to reflect everyday life. I prefer stretched square canvases (105 x 105 cm), allowing for vigorous techniques and easy transport. This format aids in creating balanced and symmetrical compositions.
The sculpture began as a painting and evolved due to my interest in its sculptural elements. It features a garden chair with an impossibly placed artificial cucumber, suggesting sexual ideas, though interpretation is left up to the viewer. The cucumber connects to one of the paintings depicting a banana in place of a firearm, presenting humour through everyday items.
My work combines humour and existential contemplation, reflecting on the complexity of daily life. Influenced by contemporary artists like Jamian Juliano-Villani and Dion Kitson, my pieces evoke laughter and contemplation. Despite humour's subjective nature, I believe the exhibit creates an engaging and entertaining experience, highlighting the unpredictable and complex nature of everyday life.
