My art is rooted in the dissolving of the ego. I feel, as humans, we are slowly drifting further away from our source amongst the trees and animals. So, I have created a series of hybrid, life-size sculptures of humans merging naturally with the rhizomatic approach and mycelial network. They live in a cave where the ground is blanketed in damp earth and auric light dances upon their flesh.
A monument to witchcraft is a depiction of a hermit who has spent centuries in the forest – she has evolved into the form of a slender tree. From her head grows bramble horns and wise eyes that speak the unspoken.
Earth's vessel is similar, in that she has been in a state of deep meditation for so long that her human form has shifted shape to sustain herself via the earth’s soil – her head is gently placed on her lap, for she has no need for it anymore.
Unborn roots is a foetus who is being nurtured by the others amongst the warm earth, protected through their bloody roots and hairy green veins. She is symbolic of the latent mind; the pure power of the subconscious, our unborn potential.
