Bus Stop (until we see each other again)
Maria Sayoko Aoyama investigates how technology impacts communication, such as through mail correspondence, or binary code and pixels as digital language.
In Bus Stop (until we see each other again), the debris of linguistic translation constructs a point of transit, of temporary rest and waiting. Letter offcuts from a handwritten message between her Romanian grandparents are transformed through digital and machine translations. Hand-cut wire encases the offcuts, depicting strings of binary code. Aoyama’s work explores the permeability of language resulting from the desire for its clarification, meaning fragmented in the attempt to communicate.
