Manya Tandon

I am an illustrator from India, working at the intersection of fairytales and psychology. My books give shape to psychological phenomena and feelings that are often hard to put into words. By giving these feelings a fictional, fairytale-like form, I try to make them easier to hold, understand, and talk about.

I illustrate for both children and adults, creating books that work on multiple levels: playful and inviting for younger readers, layered and resonant for older ones.

I have created two books; Tale of the Two Swans is a children's book about two swans who share a lake but not much else. Locked in a quiet rivalry, they are forced to confront with their own flaws when a storm sweeps through, and to see each other differently. My latest book, What I Cannot Remember is about the life of a memory; how it lives, distorts, fades, and resurfaces. I take the reader with me as I unravel a memory and make sense of what remains.

Plans after degree

I want to write and illustrate more books, covering a wider range of feelings!
