I am a mixed media textiles designer specialising in childrenswear. I create designs using bright and vibrant colours, incorporating abstract and playful shapes. The techniques I specialise in to make my collections are digital print, digital embroidery and machine knit, as well as appliqué. I am inspired by everyday surroundings, combining my travel and unique life experiences. I focus on the sensory elements of clothing to make a difference for those with sensory needs. I experiment with a variety of fabrics and stitch, which children will feel safe and confident when wearing.
I created my collection, A Summer Escape, using digital print, CAD embroidery and appliqué, as well as puff printing techniques. I wanted to showcase my fun and bold designs which are ideal for childrenswear. I was mindful in my choice of fabrics to ensure everything would be as comfortable as possible. This is evident through my use of soft denim, fleece and an assortment of appliqué fabrics. I also wanted to think about sensory comforting items to reduce anxiety and promote happiness and wellbeing, for example my comfort blanket design, a teddy and some unique fidgets.
Plans after degree
I am planning to look for a job or internship with a company that designs childrenswear.
