Beyond Tokyo is a collection of interior textile samples inspired by visiting my brother who recently moved to Japan. I set out to create interior designs inspired by the beauty of local rural areas suffering from underpopulation. This interiors collection includes both digital and hand-printed samples using techniques such as screen print, Procion printing and devoré, for both hard and soft surfaces including fabrics, wallpapers, ceramic tiles and Jesmonite. The intended application of these samples is for home interiors such as within an open-plan living space such as an apartment. I hope that these designs could inspire people to travel 'Beyond Tokyo' when visiting Japan. 

The design process for this collection began with experimenting with mark-making with different materials and mediums, which were then digitally collaged using Photoshop to create drawings. These were used in combination with more illustrative drawings I created using markers and physical paper collages. This is a digital print-led collection using natural fabrics and a Mimaki printer for the majority of the collection, printed on fabrics include linens and cottons. 

As a textile designer, I like to work with a collaged, playful approach to my designs and use mark making to give my digital designs depth. I like to work using a lot of motifs to vary my imagery and make my samples look diverse, whilst still working within one collection.
