I'm a solo game developer and illustrator with a love for atmosphere and environmental storytelling. My illustrative work is defined by bold shapes and vibrant colours, a stylistic world I continue to work within with my 3D work, which primarily focuses on rich atmosphere through my low-poly visuals, choppy textures and original, ambient music. I aim to set my games in bizarre, surreal environments that distort the player's sense of scale and place, creating narrative experiences that are up to interpretation.
My Final Major Project is a puzzle adventure called The Labyrinth on Burrow Hill that has players explore a vast, brutalist structure full of thematically distinct rooms that each require a different way of thinking to solve a unique challenge.
As an illustrator, my approach to game development is very visual-led. I take immense joy in fine-tuning the colours, architecture and textures of a space to evoke a certain mood, usually something strange and unsettling as I find this pairs perfectly with a first-person, interactive perspective. I've been largely inspired by the subtly spooky feel of real-life escape room experiences, and I feel the act of uncovering a character through the environment they leave behind is central to the ideology within my games. By combining this manifesto with my love of wacky shapes and forms, I feel I've been able to target a niche intersection of genres within the indie-game sphere!
Plans after degree
Since releasing my game on Steam to an unexpected degree of success, I plan to continue to pursue self-employed game development in collaboration with other artists I met through my time at university.
