Gilded Dreams

This project explores the 1920s and 'The Great Gatsby'. My project Gilded Dreams conveys the rise of wealth and high income in the 1920s, creating the illusion of the 'American Dream'.

The word 'gilded' means something covered in gold, hence the ‘gilded age’. The gilded age was in the 1900s, however the emphasis on glamour and luxury increased in the 1920s. The roaring 20s significantly changed the world, especially in America.

I have taken this period and created a luxury interior collection focusing on maximalism within the Art Deco style. I have used the processes of screen printing, digital print, collage, laser and UV Print to create a collection of work. As sustainability is an important factor within the textiles industry, my work has been focused on this using recycled, second hand and deadstock fabrics.

Plans after degree

After my degree, I plan to build my portfolio and pursue a job as a print designer. I’m also interested in collaborating with creatives and companies to grow my experience, with the long-term goal of starting my own design business.
