India Marney
India Marney is a UK-based photographer who focuses on documenting our connection to the natural world in analogue and digital mediums. With a focus on nature, people and food, India is interested in telling the stories of people who produce food and how they connect with the environment around them. India is passionate about building a relationship and emotional connection with her subjects, in order to create work that captures the essence of the people or places. Growing up she spent long summers exploring the English countryside, and travelling with her mother and siblings, this has instilled a curiosity and love of nature and wandering that India tries to emulate through her photography.
When India isn’t taking pictures or cooking, she’s usually swimming in the sea, foraging, trying new restaurants, playing Uno with her son or deep in a good book.
For the last nine years, alongside her studies, India has worked as a cook, baker, recipe developer and cookery teacher, which has led to an affinity with good produce and a passion for teaching valuable cooking skills to people who need it. India’s background in fine art and photography, have given her a visual language for food styling and plating that’s naturalistic and personal. In addition to her photographic practice, India works as a freelance cook and recipe developer, catering for events and private meals.
Her recipes can be found on Substack.
Berry Hill
The project documents a year in the life of Berry Hill Farm, a traditional, family-run smallholding nestled in the Dorset hills since 1936. Three generations have tended this land with dedication and resilience. Through portraits, produce, markets, and shifting weather, the series reveals the daily rhythms, beauty, and traditions that sustain this enduring farm.
Plans after degree
To create a photo and recipe book that documents small-scale growing across Dorset, and to continue working as a chef and cookery teacher.
