When Learning Comes to Life Through Horses
Gabby Wood is a photographer based in the South of England whose work is rooted in real stories, emotional nuance, and human connection. Her photographic style blends contemporary and traditional aesthetics through a clean, composed documentary approach.
With a focus on themes such as identity, wellbeing and community, Gabby uses photography to explore how people relate to themselves, others and the spaces they inhabit. Her practice combines portraiture with environmental storytelling to document deeply personal and often overlooked narratives.
Past projects have centred on emerging musicians, adoption journeys and students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) engaged in equine-assisted learning – subjects she approaches with curiosity, care, and sensitivity to their emotional weight. Gabby’s photographs aim to create an honest dialogue between the viewer and the subject, inviting a moment of reflection and empathy.
Her most recent project, When Learning Comes to Life Through Horses, documents the unique approach of the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy. The work captures how students with SEND build life skills, confidence, and independence through equine-assisted learning. Through this series, Gabby continues her commitment to visual storytelling that uplifts underrepresented voices and explores the quiet power of connection, growth and belonging.
