Uniform Reimagined
This is my childrenswear portfolio, an adaption of a womenswear collection which explores the idea of why school uniform has to look so boring, with the key message of "reimagining school uniform as a form of expression rather than a restriction".
The project is based around the idea of re-designing school uniform from a perspective of having to wear uncomfortable and boring looking ‘traditional school uniform’. I drew inspiration from the likes of High School Musical and tween Disney Channel, where vibrant fashion contributed to individuality within the school setting, while classic British uniform is the complete opposite.
The progression of the project has challenged areas of making idealised uniform to a more experimental and rebellious approach. The collection represents how the key garments like polo shirt, pinafore and skirts have been exaggerated through fabric manipulation and bold silhouettes, making them feel more expressive, as it represents what the new norm should look like. Alternatively, it explores two worlds of fantasy vs. reality within the normal world and an imagined world of uniform.
