Cherry

On a remote Greek island, Lina moves through long summer days and starlit nights immersed in nature and fleeting connections, while the film explores sensory memory and the quiet intimacy of being fully present in a moment.

Cherry is a meditation on memory, our physical passage through the places we have known, and the lasting impressions shaped by our senses. The film seeks to capture the textures of a place, the rhythm of days unfolding, and the electricity of meeting someone who sees you – even if only for a moment.

I am drawn to stories where very little “happens” on the surface, but everything stirs beneath. Cherry is not about dramatic change or revelation. It’s about how the wind felt at sunrise, how a stranger’s voice stayed with you, and how a summer memory can still pulse in your body decades later.

The film offers a glimpse into Lina’s three days on the island, and invites the viewer to inhabit that space with her for about 20 minutes. It is about precious moments of freedom that represent a rare connection to our true physical existence – our core human nature.

We chose a naturalistic, handheld approach to immerse the viewer in Lina’s experience. Improvisation allowed for spontaneity and vulnerability, while the absence of dialogue invites us to listen more closely to the sea, the silence, the breath between people.

Through vivid landscapes, simplicity, unfiltered characters, and authentic performances, the film attempts to create an atmosphere that feels both intimate and immediate.

Ultimately, Cherry is my attempt to preserve a kind of quiet magic that often slips past unnoticed, and to ask: what stays with us, even when everything else around us has changed?
