Rooted In Heritage
I specialise in surface design for fashion. My practice combines traditional craftsmanship with digital innovation, including hand embroidery, CAD embroidery, embellishment, Irish machine embroidery, hand-dyeing, digital print and fabric manipulation. With a strong foundation in drawing and painting, I often translate detailed, hand-rendered designs into textile outcomes.
Rooted In Heritage was developed to express a personal, contemporary interpretation of heritage whitework embroidery, researched through my final-year Investigative Study essay. My inspiration was natural root formations and textural qualities found in nature. To continue the natural theme, I developed dyes from natural silver birch tree bark and rhubarb roots to hand dye repurposed fabrics and some embroidery threads.
Plans after degree
I plan to start out working as a freelance artist, producing hand paintings and using an agent to find clients within industry.
