Bianca Bulgarea

During this project, I have been exploring the body and feminine mind through making a being that has not existed before, or is able to fully be comprehended by the human mind.

I have used recognisable elements, but used in ways that twist and bend unpredictably to play around with the eyes of the viewer. I also used colours and shades that are typically associated with young women and the female body, with the light pink shades and darker purple around curves and bends, and using blue in the iris for contrast, not having the colours blend in too much. I mostly drew on from my own body for this project as I struggle with imperfect skin, acne and body weight problems, so I wanted it to represent, and quite literally, be that part of me in these paintings, channeling it into them so that I can accept how these make me feel and move on to being happier with my body and skin.

Despite this, I want it to also be its own "living" being, separate to my own personal feelings and keeping it up to interpretation for the viewers to use their own experience and place themselves in these paintings however they wish.

Plans after degree

I plan on exploring a couple different things until I find what I want to do. I don't want to stick to one thing but rather try out several things I might enjoy, like applying for exhibitions or apprenticeships, specifically tattoo apprenticeships and making more personal work that I haven't been able to explore while I've been busy.
