I am a passionate dancer with a specific love of contemporary dance and movement therapy. Throughout my time at university, I've had a range of opportunities to express my ideas and creativity in different ways.
In third year, I was able to create a piece for a Scratch Night (a collaboration of dancers joining to show their recent dance work) based around OCD and the impacts on mental health, as this meant a lot to me and my partner Lauren, as we feel OCD is often stereotyped and misunderstood. This piece in particular taught us how to create a full dance piece, including how to produce effective lighting, music and costume, but also a really great way to build our strengths on storytelling through dance.
Part of my Final Major Project was another dance piece called Blended in Motion, which was inspired by my 10-week placement at Dance for Parkinson's in which I learned how important the impact of movement is and how movement brings people together. In the future, I plan to teach dance to all ages and would also like to go into movement therapy in the community to help people feel more confident with movement.
Plans after degree
After my degree, I am going to get my Approaches to Dance for People with Parkinson’s Level 4 qualification to be certified to teach dance to those with Parkinson's Disease, alongside teaching contemporary dance to all ages.
