Wirral Walks

I'm a textile designer whose work focuses on hard and soft furnishing for interior spaces, using handcrafted techniques such as knitting, tuft, weave and painting to achieve my designs. My creative practice is inspired by colour, texture and shape found within outdoor environments.

Wirral Walks is a bespoke interiors collection inspired by textures, shapes and colours found within imagery I have taken on walks around my hometown on The Wirral. My intention for this project was to highlight two concepts that bring me calm and joy, walking and crafted textiles, translating this through my collection. I aimed to highlight the importance of handcrafted textiles as it possesses a personal quality to textile products that is currently being lost within the textile industry, exploring the importance of slow textiles.

I have used high quality materials to achieve this collection, such as British wools, off-cut oak and birch wood and monkswool cloth, to ensure my project was eco-friendly. Contextual research is an important part of my project, as well as drawing development and trial sampling, focusing on techniques such as lasering, knitting, weaving, and hand painting to highlight my strength in handcrafted textile design.

Plans after degree

After graduation, I intend to apply to internships and jobs within the textile industry. I will be focusing my search on smaller studio spaces with companies that work with techniques I am interested in, such as weave, knitting and rug design. My long-term goal is to start my own company, producing my own textile work as well as commissioned pieces.
