Dr James Cole

Course Leader – Creative Writing

PhD English Literature and Creative Writing (UoS), MA Creative Writing (UoS), BA English Literature (UoS)

James attended the University of Southampton where he undertook a BA (Hons) in English Literature and an MA in Creative Writing. He consolidated his studies with a PhD in English Literature and Creative Writing, also at Southampton, where he has since taught on various modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. For the past eight years, James has led workshops and held community-based residencies within the local area, hoping to foster a love for reading and writing.

Following a year as Writer in Residence, he is currently Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for BA (Hons) Creative Writing at the Arts University Bournemouth.

His writing has appeared in Aesthetica and Unwrapped (Torque Press). His novel, Reading Through Binoculars, was shortlisted for the Dundee International Book Prize 2016. For more information about James and his practice, follow the links below:

James teaches across many courses, bringing creative writing techniques to students who are engaging with narrative and story-telling, particularly those from Illustration, Film Production, Animation Production, and Acting. He delivers bespoke lectures and writing workshops, offers 1:1 feedback on scripts/stories, and is involved with interdisciplinary projects.
