Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) is pleased to announce a free creative writing workshop led by MA Creative Writing (Online) alumna Louisa Flynn, taking place as part of a temporary community pop-up space in Bournemouth town centre.
Hosted by Jessica Toale, MP for Bournemouth West, the workshop will run on Friday 25 September, serving as a prelude to the opening weekend of Bournemouth’s annual Arts by the Sea Festival.
Titled Writing the Elements, this playful and accessible two-hour workshop invites participants of all experience levels to explore the natural world and their internal landscapes through creative expression.
Inspired by the festival's overarching theme, the session uses elemental concepts, whether classical systems or individual interpretations, as a springboard for nature-focused writing.
Participants will be guided through gentle warm-up exercises, immersive elemental soundscapes, and readings of notable poetry and short prose.
The workshop aims to foster a welcoming, supportive community environment where attendees can share thoughts, discuss ideas, and draft new creative work.
At the close of the session, attendees will have the option to read their pieces aloud. Individual contributions created during the afternoon will also be collated by Louisa into a single, collaborative communal piece.
“There is something really powerful about creating like this," says Louisa, reflecting on previous collaborative projects such as her work with the National Trust’s Poetry Machine. “I’m really inspired by the theme and looking forward to bringing people together through creative writing.”
Having graduated from the MA Creative Writing (Online) course in 2026, Louisa is now a tutor for AUB Academy. Her practice focuses on nature-inspired prose, poetry, and community-led creative collaborations.
Writing the Elements will take place at 6 Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth on Friday 25 September, 16.00–18.00.
