My interest in photography came directly from fine art. I used to do academic drawing when I was younger, and by the time I finished the art academy in my hometown, I already knew that I wanted to make a living from my creativity.

My passion for photography in particular came from watching my dad pick up a camera every time my mum, dad and I spent time together. My family has always been supportive of me following my passions and interests, and all of my creative work has been greatly appreciated by them. After two years of college, I chose BA (Hons) Commercial Photography at AUB because I loved the facilities the course provided and the Alumni Stories were very inspiring as well.

Inspiration for my creative work primarily comes from my own life experiences, memories and the media that I consume and engage with daily. A lot of my personal and university projects take influence from nature, and everything related to it. I love watching runway shows and analysing looks from different time periods and fashion movements to build my own strong taste and editorial vision.

All of my projects start with a brainstorming stage where I gather ideas and sources that spark further research for my work. After that, I move straight into executing my ideas, planning my initial work process while allowing myself to experiment. I am aiming to work within fashion and advertising photography, so my final year at AUB will be structured around completing a strong portfolio that can help launch my career after graduating.

Studying at AUB has had a massive positive impact on my self-confidence as a young artist. My course provides a lot of support at every stage of working on my assignments. I also want to emphasise how helpful and lovely all of my teachers and technicians are. Every question I have is answered, and the atmosphere on the course is very friendly and welcoming. There are many opportunities for students that my course offers, including wonderful trips abroad and the chance to have work displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Another very important part of being a creative student for me is getting to spend time with and connect with other incredibly talented people on campus. As I’ve moved into my final academic year at AUB, I feel so much more self-assured in my creative practice. Looking back over the last two years of my course, I can see incredible growth in both my artistic development and my personal experiences. I’ve met amazing people at university who have then become my very good friends.

My favourite thing to do in Bournemouth is, obviously, spend time at the beach and go thrifting around town. Outside of my studies, I also roller skate, and Bournemouth has plenty of great places to offer for that too.

My piece of advice for future students is a bit corny, but it is really important that you don’t hide your authentic self. Your best ideas and projects come from your genuine involvement in the things you are creating. Be who you are, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes, because being a brand-new student can feel a bit overwhelming!
