Interior architecture and design company KTM Design is hosting Texture Talks, a star-studded event at Pavilion Dance South West with globally recognised figures, TV personalities, and Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) alumni in attendance to explore key trends in modern design.

Founded by Katie Thomas and England footballer Tyrone Mings in 2015, KTM Design has offices in London and Bournemouth where they work with global brands and private clients.

Katie is also the southwest regional director of the Society of British and International Interior Design (SBID).

She says, “The event will bring together designers, suppliers, architects, contractors and anyone with an interest in the spaces we live, work and play in, for an intimate afternoon of conversation, learning and inspiration.

“Following the success of last year’s Sustainable Style, we’ve curated another programme designed to gently draw our industry in, provoke interesting chats and build meaningful, long-lasting and mutually beneficial relationships."

The programme for Texture Talks includes various panel discussions, thought leadership, and networking opportunities. Topics include the rise of eco-friendly materials and methods, balancing rising costs and value engineering with design quality and the growing role of wellbeing and mental health in the built environment.

John Cooper, AUB alumnus and this year’s winner of BBC’s Interior Design Masters, is among the speakers.

“Katie and I share the same foundation in design education from AUB," he says, "but we’ve taken different paths, so bringing our experiences together at this event feels like a proper collaboration.

“It will be great to bounce ideas around with someone who understands the creative language we both learned here, and to see how those shared roots can branch out in new, exciting directions. The event is all about diving deep into the materials that make spaces truly come alive.

“It’s not just about what looks good. It’s about what feels good, what lasts, and what tells a story. People can expect to hear honest insights into how designers are using new finishes, innovative products, and timeless materials in creative ways.

"I’ll be sharing how texture can completely transform a space – whether that’s adding warmth, depth, or functionality – and how understanding materials at a deeper level can really expand your creative toolkit."

Joining John as guest speakers are:

  • Dr Vanessa Brady OBE, president of the Society of British and International Interior Design (SBID).
  • Matt Robb, representing The Stone Federation.
  • Michael Grubb, founder of Michael Grubb Studio and an award-winning lighting designer.
  • Matt Evans, award-winning landscape designer.
  • Max McMurdo, designer, upcycler, author and TV personality.

Katie adds, “With an incredible line-up of experts offering exclusive insights on the materials, methods, and mindsets shaping our industry, this event is a must-attend for interior design and architecture students, professionals and enthusiasts.”

Tickets are available via Eventbrite.
