Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) MA Creative Writing student Louisa Flynn has seen her evocative poetry gain international recognition, after her piece Two Futures was selected as Poem of the Month for October by the Extinction Rebellion Rebel Library.
Exploring the stark contrasts between societal breakdown and collective ecological revival, Two Futures splits its narrative across two distinct trajectories.
Part I paints a vivid, cautionary picture of a fractured world defined by climate disparity where luxury pods hover above rising oceans while the displaced shelter below.
In contrast, Part II envisions a powerful turning point of unity, where communities pull together through renewable energy systems and a shared, heartbeat-like rhythm of restoration.
Louisa, who is currently studying on the MA Creative Writing (online) course, is an emerging writer whose creative practice centres on themes of wellbeing, identity and socio-political climate activism.
Commenting on the motivation behind her work, Louisa shares, “My aim through poetry is to explore the deep intersections between holistic wellbeing and climate breakdown. By examining both our fears and our capacity for collective action, I hope to foster empathy, understanding, and a renewed sense of connection to our planet and each other.”
She’s currently developing a broader collection of poetry that expands on these themes, combining creative practice with environmental advocacy.
Her selection for the Rebel Library highlights the powerful role that creative voices from the AUB community play in shaping vital cultural conversations around sustainability and our collective environmental future.
