MA Painting students from Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) enjoyed a successful show at Lighthouse, Poole as part of AUB's 2024 Postgraduate Summer Shows.
Running from 7–28 September 2024, the final projects from AUB’s MA Painting students were curated in a public exhibition drawing in crowds from across the region as well as local dignitaries.
"This annual exhibition at Lighthouse is a wonderful celebration of our 2024 graduating students," comments Associate Professor Dominic Shepherd, course leader for MA Painting. "The works on show evidenced the developing strengths of MA Painting at AUB with strong themes and threads running through a highly cohesive exhibition.
"The formal opening and private view on 6 September was well attended by an admiring audience, who took in the diverse and accomplished works, the result of a dedicated year of study and practice."
Speeches and awards were also given during the event. Dominic went on to extend congratulations to all the artists who exhibited: Aurora Zehra Rizvi, Lisa O’Connor, Xue Wang, Sarah Banerjee, Paula Maxwell, Willow Manning, Meg Lewis and Claudia Lilly.
Dominic adds, "As commented by critic and curator Paul Carey Kent, Sarah Banerjee’s work ‘Dance for Me’ explores with the contemporary possibility of ‘freedom and control in a human relationship’; Claudia Lilly’s sheet painting is an ‘original play’ where ‘abstraction meets still life meets figuration,’ and Xue Wang’s ‘encounter in which the sheep… proves more mysterious than one might expect’."
AUB students who began their postgraduate studies in January 2024 will exhibit their work at the Postgraduate Winter Show on campus in December.
