Madoka Takei, an award-winning alumna from the MA Photography course at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) has exhibited her work at the Saatchi Gallery, London as part of the British Art Fair.
The work comprises three images taken during Madoka’s studies at AUB, and three taken this year at Indra Studios, London.
“All six photos are themed around recreating paintings into photography,” Madoka explains. “The three photos I created while at AUB include The Wine Maid, which won the Fine Art British Photography Award."
The annual British Art Fair showcases a variety of modern British and contemporary art, connecting exhibitors not only with dealers, but with some of the country’s most celebrated artists.
“The Saatchi Gallery is a space I’ve visited often and deeply admired," says Madoka, "so having the opportunity to exhibit my work there is a true honour.
"It’s one of the reasons I chose to take part in the fair. I’m both nervous and excited, but I’m hopeful that this experience will lead to new and meaningful connections that help me grow and expand my career.”
Having graduated from AUB’s MA Photography course in 2023, Madoka says she’s still in the process of expanding her experience and practice. Nevertheless, she has one piece of advice for other photography students and graduates:
“Stay open and ready to say yes to all kinds of opportunities,” she says. “Sometimes, you meet the right people when you least expect it, and those chance encounters can lead to unexpected opportunities.
“It’s also important to share your goals and interests with the people around you – you never know who might pass the word along or connect you with someone who can help.”
The British Art Fair 2025 took place from 25–28 September at the Saatchi Gallery, London.
