The thesis film of an Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) graduate has been selected for an international short film festival in Greece.
Eftychia Manola, who completed AUB’s MA Film Practice (Online) course in 2025, is among the selectees at the Drama International Short Film Festival with Cherry.
Cherry takes place on a remote Greek island, following Lina as she moves through long summer days and starlit nights, immersed in nature and fleeting connections.
The film explores sensory memory and the quiet intimacy of being fully present in the moment.
Dr Karen Cunningham, Course Leader on MA Film Practice (Online) says, “Eftychia’s development over the two years with us at AUB has been remarkable. Her approach to filmmaking was always very engaged and quite personal, and it was great to see how she grew in confidence and ambition while still maintaining her approach of working with non-actors and bringing in people she has a connection with into her projects.
“This is most evident in her thesis film Cherry, in which she immersed herself, along with her friends and a small crew of cinematographers and sound recorders, spending days and nights together on a small Greek island. The resulting film, which I supervised as her final project supervisor, is a beautiful and thoughtful meditation on time, memory, and the senses.”
The 49th Drama International Short Film Festival opened on 6 September, running until 12 September.
