Two students on BA (Hons) Graphic Design at Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) are celebrating as they receive internships at Lush off the back of a popular live brief.

The annual brief sees students work directly with the Concepts and Collaborations team at Lush Cosmetics, which develops new ideas and finds new audiences, organising Lush launches as well as brand collaborations.

The students were tasked to create a Lush wellbeing toolkit that boosted wellbeing through briefs that helped users 'Zone Out' after a long day, take an 'Everything Shower', get supple 'Post Move', invite a friend with 'Plus One', and prepare for a night out with 'Get Ready With Me'.

Working with their chosen brief, the students produced an aesthetically beautiful, creatively printed and packaged final product in just eight weeks. The kit needed to include three Lush products along with a deck of 50 cards, three greaseproof sheets, a poster zine, and the box itself, all designed by the students.

Students Daisy Heywood and Joe Page were both awarded first place, winning internships at Lush as a result.

“To even be considered amongst my extremely talented peers is a massive compliment," Joe says. "I'm so grateful to Lush and AUB for the opportunity.

“In this unit, we were given specific briefs by Lush to help inspire us to design a toolkit for a specific purpose. My given brief was 'Post-Move', for the next steps after an intense workout or exercise. I decided to base my design around the origins of Lush, which was founded in Poole – I felt inspired to revolve it around Dorset's beautiful beaches and encourage people to see what it has to offer.”

Marten Sims, Senior Lecturer on BA (Hons) Graphic Design, comments, “The results were playful, sensory and designed to help people feel good in their own skin. They all produced phenomenal work, hitting the brief perfectly with Lush Creative Lead Josh Constantine describing some of the work as 'so good, we could have this in stores next week with no changes'!

“This is incredible feedback for first year students, just six months into their degree and already creating industry-standard work.

“The competition was originally supposed to have a shortlist of 10 and a top three from that, but the Lush team struggled to narrow down their favourites, so we had 12 winners overall and a top five thanks to two joint wins.

“I’m delighted to say that our two winners, Joe Page and Daisy Heywood, have both won an internship at Lush! Their work was exemplary and they both really deserve that top spot.”
