Bournemouth-based live act DD Allen, who counts James Blunt among his fans, will be playing an exclusive concert for Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) students as they arrive at university to begin the new academic year.

AUB’s Welcome Fest on Friday 24 September is being held exclusively for new and returning AUB students, with live music and a variety of food, retail and art stalls from 3pm at the university’s Campus Halls site, and from 7.30pm at Madding Crowd in Bournemouth town.

Students will be able to enjoy on campus live music from local acts including Opalites, Carley Varley, Ben Pocza, and trio Barefoot Soul, before an exclusive ticketed AUB welcome party at popular Bournemouth live music venue Madding Crowd.

Located around two and a half miles from AUB in the centre of Bournemouth town beside the Bobby’s Department Store, gig-goers can hop on one of the university’s regular town centre Unibus routes from Wallisdown campus, or hire a Beryl bike to join the party at Madding Crowd.

The music venue has played host to a roster of acclaimed live acts, including White Lies, The Wildhearts, The Hoosiers, Scouting For Girls and Toploader, and launches its own exclusive student night on 13 October.

AUB’s Senior Student Services Officer and Festival Organiser, Carrie Packer said: “We’re incredibly excited to welcome our students onto campus with an amazing Welcome Fest on Friday 24 September.

“DD Allen, alongside a roster of amazing support acts, will be performing on stage in town for us, with Arts Bar, Dorset Poffertjes, Pen Gallery, Studio Zipcode and Coastal Forage Pies providing food, drinks, shopping and ice cream outside our Campus Halls!”

Carrie added: “Don’t forget to book your tickets for the evening’s entertainment at local music venue Madding Crowd, where guests will be offered a free drink on arrival. See you there!”

Headliner DD Allen has played at venues across Dorset and beyond, and credits his success to working with big acts like James Blunt and American R&B band Vintage Trouble.

The musician and songwriter will be joined by fellow local band Mikey Ball and The Company, and Madding Crowd house band MC All Stars, who’ve played with Rag'n'Bone Man, The Hoosiers, Callum Scott, and Rihanna.

AUB students can book tickets for AUB Welcome Fest at Madding Crowd via TicketWeb, and will receive a free drink on arrival.
