BA (Hons) Make-up for Media and Performance are delighted to welcome back professional make-up artist and good friend of the course, Brian Kinney.

Brian’s seminar gave third-year students an insightful, inspirational and informative overview of what it’s been like working in the film industry during this unprecedented year of COVID-19 restrictions and the impact this has had on productions and professional practice.

Brian is a journeyman make-up artist and has worked across many spheres in the make-up industry. His credits include the films Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and television productions Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead and Cursed.

The students were treated to a realistic and in-depth account of what it’s been like working on productions throughout the pandemic whilst also discovering how industry expectations are shifting for make-up graduates about to embark upon their industry careers - in terms of portfolio development, transferable skills and graduate skills.

Brian was reassuring, candid and amusing with accounts of how onset working practices have developed and how make-up artists have had to adapt quickly to change. Make-up students now have a much greater knowledge and understanding of what is expected of them as they enter the professional industries later this year.
