This June, the Titanic docks in Bournemouth as Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) students present Titan-ish, an original interactive parody.

The production is a major collaborative effort, uniting the University’s BA (Hons) Creative Writing, Film Production, and Events Management courses to breathe new life into a classic story.

Moving away from traditional scripts, Titan-ish features an original screenplay by AUB student Megan Ashfield (BA (Hons) Creative Writing). The production is directed by Harry Egerton (BA (Hons) Film Production), ensuring a cinematic and fast-paced energy that makes full use of the historic Palace Court Theatre.

“The Palace Court is a beautiful hidden gem in Bournemouth,” says Frances Addison, Titan-ish Production Manager. “It’s the perfect medium-scale venue for an interactive show like this. With the Titanic story starting in Southampton right next door, we knew this story would resonate, but we’re giving it a very specific, comedic AUB twist.”

“This isn’t just a night at the theatre; it’s an immersive event where the audience can expect to be part of the melodrama made famous by the 1997 blockbuster,” adds Frances. “We are encouraging our audience to arrive in old Hollywood glamour, 1910s fashion, or black tie so they feel part of the show.

“We want every person in the building to feel like a passenger on the ‘Ship of Dreams’, creating a sea of period-appropriate fashion that blurs the line between the stage and the stalls.

“We are currently in the heart of our casting and character development phase,” Francis says. “The energy is incredible. By pulling together writers, filmmakers and event specialists, we are creating something that highlights the unique, interdisciplinary spirit of AUB.”

Near, far, wherever you are, you can follow the journey from script to stage via the event's website.
