Arts University Bournemouth Senior Lecturer Katie Barons is exhibiting a new series of works in a solo show, hosted at Southampton City Art Gallery’s Foyer space from 10 October until 6 December.
The exhibition, titled Where Light Falls, features 12 original paintings rooted in direct encounters with light, water and the natural landscape.
Hovering between observed reality and abstraction, Katie’s work explores transient atmospheric moments, capturing fleeting convergences of movement and colour.
Katie, who teaches on AUB’s BA (Hons) in Animation Production and BA (Hons) Games Art and Design courses, brings a rich background in Fine Art to her academic practice. She graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from UCE in 1999 and has built an established career as a practicing painter, with works held in private collections as well as on display at the Italian Villa in Compton Acres.
Speaking about the creative process behind the exhibition, Katie says, “Beginning with direct observation, each work remains open to transformation through the physicality of paint, forms are allowed to emerge and dissolve, and light becomes both subject and presence.”
