Following a successful collaborative session at the Bournemouth town centre pop-up space, MA Creative Writing (Online) graduate Louisa Flynn reflects on the creative impact of her workshop, Writing the Elements.
As part of this year’s Arts by the Sea festival prelude, Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) alumna Louisa Flynn hosted Writing the Elements, a free creative writing workshop held in a community pop-up space in Bournemouth town centre organised by Jessica Toale, MP for Bournemouth West.
Bringing together a group of nine writers, the interactive two hour session invited participants of all experience levels to explore the natural world and their internal landscapes through creative expression.
Guided by elemental soundscapes, poetry readings and nature-focused prompts, attendees crafted individual works before uniting their voices into a single collaborative, creative response.
Reflecting on the session, Louisa comments: “It was a privilege to meet and work with a group of talented writers and to shape their words into a collaborative piece.”
The session garnered heartfelt praise from participants who commented, “Thanks very much for a really interesting and enjoyable workshop. It was both a productive and peaceful experience!” and “I loved it so much – it helped me unlock some much-needed creativity!”.
At the close of the session, contributions from all nine participants – Ali, Asta, Baz, Georgiana, Julia, Midas, Peter, Rosemary and Simon – were collated into a shared piece.
Building on the success of this workshop, Louisa will be returning to AUB Academy in Spring 2027 to lead a series of weekend workshops titled Rooted Words. Scheduled for April and May 2027, the upcoming sessions will continue to offer spaces for community connection, creative writing and exploration of the natural world.
Full details and booking information will be announced soon through AUB Academy.
