Paris Higson is a Fashion Branding and Communication graduate from AUB. She’s now an Intern as part of the University Marketing team, specialising in videography and filming content for course productions and events. In a unique One Piece of Advice story, Paris comes together with her fellow graduate interns Ben Whittall and Amy Clifford to tell her Day in the Life.

06.00

I wake up to my two cats on my bed (my babies!) crying for attention, so we lay together for a bit. After plenty of hugs, I’ll head over to my desk to do my hair and make-up in the vanity mirror.

07.00

I leave the house and drive to work, listening to either music or a podcast. Right now, it’s one of my mood-dependent playlists (all tunes I can sing along to, last week it was Mamma Mia!), or the Show Studios Podcast by Nick Knight, one of my favourite photographers.

Today there’s a lot on my schedule, as I’m working extra hours. It’s outside my usual time but I’m jumping on the opportunities, as I know they’ll all be great experience!

08.00

I’ve brought some overnight oats with me, which I’ll have as a light breakfast in my car before heading into the office. The first thing I do is grab a cup of tea before catching up on some emails and checking my calendar to see what’s on for the week.

10.00

It’s time for our weekly content meeting! We all meet in the Innovation Studio for a casual discussion on new content that we can post about. I love this part of the week, because it’s time for everyone on the team to catch up, socialise, and discuss our ideas.

11.00

I quickly pop back to the office to make sure all our kit is prepared to shoot, with plenty of batteries and SD cards at the ready.

Today, we’re shooting an AUB Productions performance of Macbeth at the Palace Court Theatre. I love the collaboration of these shows and being able to shoot there – it’s an actual theatre with a full crew working on lights, sounds, set and costume design with students from AUB, some on the BA (Hons) Acting course. It’s a big effort, but it pays off with a big result!

13.00

We head back at about 13:00 for lunch and coffee – this is another chance to catch up with my colleagues. Today, I feel like going for a chicken caesar salad. We’ll chat about anything and everything, but usually, it starts off with our choice of flashy earrings for the day.

14.00

I head back to the office and check back on the footage I’ve just shot – this involves narrowing it down for editing and choosing the best moments. I love to have a plan in mind and visualise the final result; this gives me a sense of direction.

16.00

I have a Teams meeting about a production AUB are covering by a London company called Us; it’s our chance to work with the crew. A group of BA (Hons) Make-up, Dance, and Film Production students have all been offered a part in this exciting short film. Previously, this has involved shooting outside in the woods, with lots of umbrellas and camera covers to protect the equipment!

17.00

Time for an event! I head over to the Innovation Studio to photograph the Women In Tech evening. It’s a great opportunity for me to network, meeting new faces and industry connections to get myself out there. I also realise I’m starving. Thankfully, there’s a buffet with plenty of sandwiches and wraps on offer.

20.00

I finally drive home to relax. I’ll switch on the TV and browse some Netflix; right now, I’m hooked on The 1% Club, and for dinner I’m having mushroom risotto. I’ll also plan my outfit for the following day and lay it out ready – you can never be too prepared.

22.00

I start to wind down and once again, I’m chilling and laying with my cats in bed. After such a long day, I’m exhausted – but it’s been a good one!
