All Access AUB Summer Residential

We’re very excited to welcome you to the Arts University Bournemouth All Access AUB programme! The first part of the programme is the Summer Residential.

If you have any questions about the Residential, please reach out to us at wp@aub.ac.uk.

Dates, times and arrival

The residential will run from 12.00 on Tuesday 11 August (arrival from 11.30) until 13.00 on Friday 14 August.

Upon arrival, you’ll meet AUB staff and other students on the programme, before starting your welcome and introductory activities. You’ll also be given lunch at this point. There’ll be plenty of time to settle into your accommodation after the afternoon’s activities.

Please let us know if, due to train times etc., you'll be arriving before or after 11.30 and we’ll happily accommodate this.

Accommodation

During the Summer Residential, you’ll be staying in our Campus Halls of Residence, just a stone’s throw away from the Refectory, art studios and lecture theatre. Visit our Halls of Residence page for more information – you can also find a handy video about Campus Halls below.

You’ll have your own en-suite bedroom in a flat with a maximum of seven other people.

Members of the Summer Residential team will also be staying in the halls and will be available throughout your stay if you need any help or support. Reception and security staff are on site 24 hours a day.

Please make sure we know about any medical conditions, allergies, accessibility requirements or other support needs so we can help you have a safe and enjoyable stay.

All of your meals will be provided during your stay, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and evening snacks. You'll also receive a packed lunch when you arrive and when you leave.

There are water coolers across campus, so please bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the week.

Breakfast will include a range of hot and cold options, such as pancakes, toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and juice. For lunch and dinner, you'll be able to choose from a variety of meals in the refectory, including favourites such as pasta, pizza, burritos, curry and more. There will also be a salad bar and plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available.

During the residential, you'll also enjoy a BBQ and a special meal out in Bournemouth town centre, where there'll be a buffet with lots of different food choices.

Please make sure you have told us about any allergies, dietary requirements or food intolerances before you arrive.

To help you prepare for your Summer Residential, please bring:

  • Enough clothes and toiletries for your four-day stay. Try to pack only what you need to make travelling easier.
  • A change of clothes for the evening activities, if you'd like one.
  • If you're joining the Art and Design stream, you'll be working in our studios and experimenting with different materials, so please bring clothes that you don't mind getting a little messy.
  • Comfortable, flat shoes that are suitable for walking around campus.
  • Clothes for all types of weather. Don't forget a hat, sun cream and a waterproof jacket or raincoat.
  • Any medication you need during your stay. If you have a medical condition, allergy or other support need, please make sure you've told us before you arrive.
  • Some spending money if you'd like to buy extra snacks or drinks. There'll be an opportunity to visit a nearby shop during the week.
  • Any valuables are brought at your own risk. Please take care of your belongings, as we can't be responsible for items that are lost, damaged or misplaced.
  • You may also like to bring small personal items to help make your room feel more comfortable and familiar during your stay.

We'll provide:

  • Bedding, bed linen and towels
  • A drawing kit and all the materials you'll need for your workshops. You may want to bring your own pens and pencils.

Getting to AUB

You'll need to arrange your own travel to and from AUB. Information about travelling to campus, including train and bus details, can be found in our travel guide.

We'll reimburse your travel costs after the residential. To claim your expenses, you'll need to complete an expenses form and provide your travel receipts or tickets, so please keep them safe throughout your journey. Please note, we can't reimburse taxi fares.

When you arrive

When you arrive at AUB, enter through the main entrance on Fern Barrow and head to Campus Halls, which is the first building on your right. Members of the AUB team will be there to welcome you and help you get checked in.

Arriving by car

If you're being dropped off by car, your driver can stop near Campus Halls for drop-off.

Please make sure they don't park in any Bournemouth University car parks, as parking charges and fines may apply.

Travelling by train

If you're travelling by train, an AUB Outreach Ambassador will be at Bournemouth train station to assist you with getting on the bus to AUB. They'll be wearing a green AUB T-shirt, so keep an eye out and feel free to say hello.

Arriving by bus

If you’re taking a bus from Bournemouth train station to campus, the best ones to get are the 6 or the 17. You can find timetables on the Morebus website.

The closest stop to AUB on these routes is Bournemouth University, Talbot Campus. From there, you'll be able to see AUB from across the road. Buses run every half an hour or so, and the journey from the train station to AUB takes around 20 minutes.
