Halls of Residence
We offer a variety of halls of residence for first-year students. The halls of residence are located on campus or in the Lansdowne area of Bournemouth town centre with excellent bus and public transport links to enable students to easily access the university campus and town centre.
Rooms in our halls of residence are for students in their first year, or for students who have completed their Foundation Diploma and are now entering their first year of an undergraduate course.

Halls of Residence FAQs
How to book AUB halls
1. First steps
- Accept a conditional or unconditional offer of a place at AUB.
- Wait 24 hours for our systems to integrate.
- Log into your ‘My Application’ portal and click in the accommodation tile (check if there’s an email in the ‘In tray’ from AUB Admissions).
- Register on the Accommodation portal – using your AUB Student number and date of birth.
- Receive an email – to the email address you have registered with AUB – with a validation code.
- Input this validation code into the site, then you can continue with your booking.
2. Log into the Accommodation portal
- Select session 2022/23.
- Select your correct student type from the dropdown – this must match your course type (NB: U18 is only for students who will be under 18 at the start of the tenancy period).
- Select Area – the halls available for your student type will appear under this dropdown list.
- Select Licence – to match your course and length of tenancy you require.
3. Available rooms will now show
- Choose the type room - Click on ‘Book’ then follow the screen prompts to complete the booking.
- Read the Terms and Conditions in the link and tick box to confirm acceptance of these.
- Any room adaptations required? Tick box and enter details in the pop-up box.
- Select payment plan – one-off for full payment, or the instalment option and follow instructions.
What happens next?
Student Advice will receive your booking and will email you to confirm your room allocation.
At any time, you can log into your accommodation portal to check your booking, induction process, statement and your accommodation T&Cs.
You’ll be able to book your arrivals directly with your halls team and notification of this process will be in the Induction, which'll go live on your accommodation portal approximately one month prior to the start of your residence period.

When can I arrive?
You can move into your new accommodation from the first day of your tenancy onwards. You'll be sent an induction to complete in July, which'll give you the opportunity to book an arrival slot. This'll let your halls team know what day you plan on arriving and what time. Don’t worry if your plans change and you need to make changes to your arrival slot; just contact your relevant halls team to update them. We'd recommend moving into your new home as close to your tenancy start date as possible. This way, you can meet your flatmates, get your bearings in the local area and be ready for Welcome Week to start.
What should I bring?
It can be difficult knowing what to bring with you and what not to bring. It’s really essential that you make your new room feel like a home away from home, but you don’t want to double up on items that are already included. Look out in your inbox in July as you will be invited to a Pre-Arrival Webinar that is relevant to your halls of accommodation. In this webinar you will meet team members from your accommodation and student services, learn more about your new accommodation and what is included and your bed size. You will also hear about UniKitOut, a site where you can order all your essentials for your new room online and have it sent direct to your accommodation, plus AUB students get a 10% discount using the code AUB10.
Is there car parking at halls?
There's no parking on any of our halls sites, unless you're a blue badge holder. However, parking options for arrivals will be outlined in your halls induction.
Can I bring my bicycle?
Of course, we have bike stores in each of our halls of residence, and Bournemouth is also a cycle-friendly town with lots of routes to explore. Once a month on campus, we welcome the Cycle Surgeon, who's able to look over your bike and assist with any necessary repairs. Please be aware that electric bikes and scooters cannot be charged or kept inside flats and studios. If you do wish to bring your electric bike or scooter with you, please notify your halls team in advance to discuss charging options.
Can I bring a pet?
How much will it cost me to live in halls?
All your utilities bills are included within your accommodation, but you'll need to purchase a TV licence if you're bringing a TV or plan to stream BBC iPlayer. This means all you'll need to think about is your day-to-day costs, which includes food and drink, travel, going out and socialising. You may be able to access support via the AUB Access and Participation Plan or Foundation Bursaries, and Student Advice offer practical information, advice and guidance on budgeting. How will I meet people?
When you move into your new AUB accommodation, you automatically become eligible to get involved with AUB Community. AUB Community is our Residence Life programme responsible for creating a sense of home and welcome at your accommodation. Events organised and facilitated by the AUB Community team – including our AUB Community Champions, who are students who've previously lived in AUB halls of residence – take place from the start date of your tenancy and they're great ways to meet new people, mingle with your flatmates and get involved in fun activities. How do I get help if something breaks in my room/flat?
If something in your room or kitchen is broken, you'll need to report this to your halls team. When you complete your induction prior to moving into your new accommodation, you'll be invited to download your relevant halls app. On this app you can meet your fellow residents, receive updates from your halls team and you can also register any faults/defects/breaks in your room or kitchen. However, if there's an urgent or emergency issue with your room or kitchen you'll need to go and speak to your halls team directly in the reception of each halls. The halls teams are available 24/7 for you to contact.
Can I have guests?
Occasional overnight guests are permitted at the goodwill of AUB. All guests must be signed in to the halls of residence and halls staff reserve the right to require any person to leave the halls if they are not signed in. Halls staff reserve the right to exclude any visitor in accordance with Schedule 2, clause 3 of the AUB Accommodation Contract. Please remember that you're responsible for the behaviour of your invited guests, including any loss, breakage, or damages they cause, as well as any breaches of the AUB Accommodation Contract.
Is there a GP Surgery that I can register with?
We strongly encourage you to register with a local doctor as soon as you start your studies with us, to make sure you can see a doctor quickly if you fall ill or need routine medical care during the course of your studies. AUB’s Student Services work in partnership with the local Village Surgery (located next to Campus Halls) to provide a dedicated medical surgery each week. The Nurse Practitioner holds a surgery on campus on Tuesday lunchtimes. To register with the local surgery head over to the Campus Doctor website.
What should I do if I'm unwell?
If you do feel unwell during your time in halls of residence, it's important to make sure your course team is aware. Contact your course leader and team, as well as Student Records, so they can monitor any necessary absence due to illness. It's also highly recommended to inform your halls team so they're aware of any additional support you may require and can also keep an eye on you until you're on the mend.
What should I do if I need support with my mental health?
If you require support relating to your mental health, our halls team is on site 24/7 and available to assist you. AUB offers a range of student support services including Wellbeing, Counselling and drop-in sessions during the hours of 08.30–17.00 Monday to Friday. Outside these hours, you can also access University Retreat, located next to Talbot House, which is a crisis walk-in centre open from 14.00 until 21.00 Monday to Saturday. Important information about Halls of Residence
Bookings for 2023/24 are now open.
More rooms will be released on 10 May at 10.00*. To book a room, please note the following information:
- You must have firmly accepted an offer to study before you are able to book a room in halls of residence.
- Not all halls of residence are available to students at all levels of study.
- Students living in halls are not segregated by age or gender.
- You'll be able to select your preferred Halls of Residence and room type, subject to availability. Allocation is at the sole discretion of AUB; there's no right of appeal against allocation of rooms in halls.
- The rent per week is detailed on the individual halls boxes above and is paid termly in advance.
- Rent is inclusive of all bills, excluding a TV licence. Halls of residence booking forms are legally binding contracts, for full-time tenancies.
- We comply with the UK/Guild HE and ANUK codes of practice for student accommodation. The UUK/Guild HE and ANUK codes were developed specifically for educational establishments.
- Members of the Codes are independently audited to ensure that halls of residence meet specified standards.
