Amelia Bavin

When I first started at AUB I was set on becoming a costume maker, and in my first two years studying making I learnt many invaluable skills to expand upon my sewing and pattern drafting skills.

However, it was during third year that I fell in love with costume supervision and wardrobe. I took on the role as head of running wardrobe for AUB Productions' Wolves of Willoughby Chase, where I gained an understanding of how a professional production runs backstage; as well as learning how to dress for a production set in the 1830s. I loved to have the opportunity to collaborate with the other courses like acting and make-up.

Then for my final major project I was given the role as assistant supervisor for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which was a half-made and half-sourced show. This allowed me to undertake the challenge of sourcing modern costumes as well as supporting a team of makers to execute the designers’ visions.

Plans after degree

After my time at AUB, I hope to continue working in theatre wardrobe as a dresser or wardrobe assistant before working my way up to be a supervisor.
