Rachel Lacey

When I started at Arts University Bournemouth, I was very set on costume-making, but I became very interested in costume supervision. During the first term of my third year, I applied to be the costume supervisor for Wolves of Willoughby Chase, an AUB Productions show, and it turned out to be the best decision I made. I supervised a team of makers who created 19th century costumes with a fairytale twist.

For my major project, I worked as a costume supervisor on Day of Dance, an AUB Dance show. It was a flash mob dance project with costumes that combined historical undergarments and modern-day pop star styles. I also worked as the Head of Running Wardrobe on this project.

For my final AUB project, I was a costume supervisor on La Casa Nova (contemporary version), another AUB Productions show, where the costumes were based on modern high fashion.

I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I’ve learned at AUB, and this final year working as a supervisor has been an eye-opening experience that has strengthened my desire to work in costume.

Plans after degree

My goal is to work in the wardrobe department backstage in theatre and eventually become a costume supervisor.
