I’ve always been passionate about costume and AUB has given me the chance to explore this interest. During my time here, I’ve developed my skills in costume making, including pattern drafting, construction, and embellishment. One skill I’ve loved working on is embroidery, which has become a favourite of mine.
AUB has given me the opportunity to work on live productions, including their 2024 shows A Midsummer Night’s Dream and La Casa Nova. Both shows allowed me to expand my skills in menswear. For Midsummer, I made Oberon’s costume, and was given a lot of freedom with the decoration which allowed me to be experimental and use a variety of techniques to create embellishments. La Casa Nova allowed me to work on historical menswear. Collaboration has been a big part of my time at university, and I’ve been privileged to work on a variety of projects both on the course and outside of it.
I’ve always been a big Jane Austen fan, so to research the era and interpret a costume from her 1804 portrait for my personal project last year was very exciting.
Plans after degree
After graduation, I hope to explore more of the experimental side of costume and textiles.
