Within Us, Around Us
Muslin, cabbage dye, onion skin dye, thread, twine, grass cordage, bamboo, hag stones, beach pebbles (244 x 173 x 80 cm)
This work, titled Within Us, Around Us, draws from explorations of the human relationship to water.
Sitting within ecofeminist and hydro-feminist theory, led by the text Bodies of Water by Astrida Neimanis (1972), its creation focused on the ritualistically repetitive and mindful process of natural dyeing to imbue the fabric with the energy of a collaboration with water. The result is an energetic sculpture with protective and mysterious atmospheres, filling the space and erupting from the floor.
