Semester Study Abroad courses are for students and professionals who wish to spend time abroad, developing their creative skills and gaining credits towards their university degree, but don't necessarily want to spend 2-3 years in another country.

Course Information

Become part of an exciting, multi-disciplinary course. Test out different approaches. Experiment in painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture and more testing the physical and conceptual potential of materials. The course fosters a flexible and entrepreneurial attitude, the broader environment and your place within it. We encourage independent thinking and confidence in your own practice.

Depending on the term you choose to study with us, you will stimulate and develop your own creative problem-solving abilities and apply them in a multitude of situations. You will be encouraged to examine the context of your work and its relationship to audience. You will be challenged to refine your ideas and the concepts, which drive your work and will develop your research into theory and practice. A series of provocative workshops and seminars will expand your approaches to observation and interpreting information. You will develop research and become an active learner, working both independently and collaboratively. The emphasis of this course is placed on thoughtful experimentation, studio making and the development of ideas.

Portfolios are required from all prospective candidates who wish to do a Semester Study Abroad course at the Arts University. The portfolio’s purpose is to show us how you communicate and translate ideas visually. Your portfolio will be reviewed by the course leader and a panel who will determine the most appropriate year of study in the course for each candidate.
