About this course
Aimed at aspiring filmmakers with little or no previous film making experience, this new 15-week course offers a hands-on practical introduction to writing, shooting, directing, and editing your own films. You’ll master the essential skills and get to grips with every aspect of filmmaking under the expert guidance of practising university and industry professionals.
Across 15 weeks, our specialist film tutors will guide you through the essential aspects of film making. Each week you’ll take part in practical workshops, talks, and demonstrations that cover different aspects of filmmaking, as well as specialist editing sessions, to equip you with the skills to produce highly polished and professional films, from concept to final cut.
This includes pre-filming elements such as story, script development, planning, shot lists, and storyboarding. Equally you’ll cover aspects of being on set, including directing, technical lighting, health and safety considerations, and camera work.
You’ll work in small groups throughout the course to develop an original story concept. Through an introduction to scriptwriting, you’ll develop your own original script and create a storyboard to prepare for shooting your film.
As a group, you'll enjoy a full day on set/location where you'll shoot your film ahead of beginning the editing stage. Whilst on location you’ll cover the technical use of professional film and sound equipment. You'll develop a working understanding of the importance of editing,
Following your shoot, you’ll work individually to edit your own unique cut using Adobe Premiere Pro. You’ll learn about the importance of editing, the language and terminology, cutting styles, continuity editing parameters and editing to music.
