Course information
Delivered through practical workshops, demonstrations and project-based assignments, the course is designed to help you understand how to plan, develop and realise a range of art and design projects with confidence and clarity.
Expertly led by specialist tutor Abi Kremer, you'll develop strong investigative and research skills to underpin your creative work. You’ll learn how to explore contemporary, historical and cultural contexts, apply research meaningfully to your projects, and document your creative journey professionally.
Abi brings a wealth of experience as both an artist and educator. Having studied Environmental Art, specialising in mural design, she has completed a number of public art commissions, including works displayed at Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals and a commission for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee at Bournemouth Library.
Throughout the course, you’ll experiment with a broad range of art and design media, including pencil, paint, charcoal, pastel, ink and chalk, alongside processes such as printmaking and sculpture. You'll develop practical and technical skills while gaining an understanding of how to select and apply appropriate materials to support your creative intentions.
Following a period of structured experimentation, you'll begin to identify areas of personal interest and specialism. You’ll develop a deeper understanding of the visual language and formal elements within your chosen discipline, culminating in more resolved and ambitious project work.
By the end of the year, you'll have built a substantial body of work, strengthened your creative voice, and gained the confidence and practical skills required for further study or progression into the creative industries.

Will I be assessed?
Yes, if you complete this one-year course and meet the necessary ongoing assessment criteria set by Skills Education Group (SEG), you’ll be awarded an accredited Level 2 SEG certificate.

Please note, it’s not possible to enrol on this course part-way through. You’ll need to attend from the start date in October.
You’ll be expected to complete projects, exercises, and research outside your sessions at AUB. You’ll be provided with more details about timelines and project submission deadlines at the start of the course.

Suitable for adults aged 18+.
Level
Beginners or anyone with some experience who want to refresh or develop their skills further.
Experience or qualifications required
None – this is an introductory course. We have no formal academic entry requirements for our short courses. As this is a structured one-year Level 2 course, students should be prepared for consistent attendance and engagement throughout the course.

Any additional costs
You'll need to provide some of your own art materials and equipment. This'll incur an additional cost if you need to purchase one for the course. See the 'What to bring to class' section below for full details.
You'll be provided with an A3 sketchbook to get you started, but you may need to purchase a second depending on the amount of work you complete. All additional materials are provided by AUB Academy.

Full guidance will be given during the first session. For the first class, please bring your sketchbook, pencils and eraser.
