Tilly Skates

I am an ambitious, creative and explorative contemporary dance artist who has been following my fierce passion for artistic, embodied performance from a young age. My introduction to dance came from an eclectic mix of contemporary techniques along with classical ballet, commercial and K-pop.

Currently, I am working as a K-pop dance teacher at Pavilion Dance South West and a dance captain for Bournemouth University’s K-pop dance competition team, alongside being a lead dancer on the team. I always prioritise the way I highlight my dancers and their abilities to let everyone showcase their best self in a way they are still pushing past their own limitations. Being able to explore different concepts and create a fresh, quirky take on choreography allows me to navigate new ways of moving that are inviting for the audience to watch.

Being a virtuoso performer, I have the ability to bring to life any role or concept given. I bring raw emotion to the stage that allows audiences to connect with in a way they are taken on a journey.

Plans after degree

I am working intensely to carry on building up my technical and performance skills, with the aim of joining a contemporary dance company in the future. In September, I will be moving to Manchester for a year to complete my Master's degree in choreography and professional practices at the University of Salford. I am very exciting to develop my creativity and continue learning more about my growing passion of choreography.
