I have always been interested in alienation and othering, both in interpersonal relationships and within the self. My work centres around these themes, exploring the space we take up in society and how much of it we think we deserve. My practice reflects the deconstruction and reconstruction of our identities, relationships with others, and bodies.
As a multi-disciplinary artist with a background in textiles, I am drawn to the tactile qualities of fabric and fibre and the cryptic nature of patterns. I try to disrupt textiles' inherent sense of softness by merging traditional and contemporary decoration processes with other media, such as paint and ink. Making has become a way for me to navigate and give form to difficult-to-articulate emotions; thus, through a combination of various materials and techniques, I seek to add to the dialogue about the contradictory and complex nature of human connection.
