Dance Welcome Guide
We're delighted to have you join us at Arts University Bournemouth, and hope that your time here will be rewarding, challenging, creative and enjoyable.
This welcome pack is designed to give you an idea of what to expect during the first weeks of your course. Please take the time to read it carefully and take particular note of the pre-course preparation. We hope that you will enjoy a happy and productive time with us, and we look forward to meeting you in October.
I'm very excited that you are joining the BA (Hons) Dance degree this year. My colleagues and I are really looking forward to welcoming you to join us as a dance student at AUB. We hope you'll enjoy your course and embrace your time with us at Arts University Bournemouth.
Please read this pack carefully as it includes important information about your first week and certain course requirements. You'll find out more about the course and University on arrival, but in the meantime, you may wish to do some preparation. Hopefully, this pack will help you know what to expect.
As you'll already be aware, the BA (Hons) Dance course is a practice-based degree course that also contains some purely theoretical units. You'll receive a course handbook and timetable in your first week.
You’ll be starting a very physically demanding course. Please do make sure you use the summer to be as active as you can so that you can jump into your timetable fully. If you are carrying any physical injuries, please take time to get them treated before your busy term launches.
See you soon. Looking forward to meeting you all.
- Jane White, Course Leader
There's no required summer reading for this course, nor are you expected to purchase any books. Once you arrive at AUB, you'll receive your Course Handbook which will contain a comprehensive reading list. The Library at AUB is extremely well resourced and includes all key texts that you will need. However, over time you may decide to purchase a personal copy of frequently used texts.
We'd ask that you make yourself as aware as you can of the current UK dance sector and what's happening, and seeing live performance work if possible.
There is no summer project set for the course.
Creativity – Why It Matters
Have a look through some of the work our current students are producing to get an idea of the type of work you may be making on our course.
You don't need to bring anything other than a pen, notebook and your smile on your first day, but it would be good to invest in:
As part of your course, you'll frequently be required to record your progress and practical development. Mobile phones with adequate storage are fine for this purpose.
