This exciting and intensive hands-on 2-week course is perfect for students aged 15+ years looking to make a big leap into making!

If you like materials and have a curious, experimental mind with an eye for detail, then this course is for you. You'll be introduced to processes, techniques, and finishing skills used by the professional creative industries. You'll be challenged to make different types of objects used in the modelmaking industry.

About this course

Modelmaking is perfect if you're interested in making or design, and have an imaginative and experimental mind – from the precision of Formula One, to the Fantasy of Star Wars, it all starts here.

If you've a passion for creating fantasy worlds in film, television, and theatre, or designing and making props and fantastical beings then this is the course for you.

Likewise, if you enjoy communicating the designs of products, structures, vehicles or buildings, informing through museums, exhibitions, and advertising, or are interested in medical prosthetics and forensic reconstructions, then this course is also for you.

As a modelmaker, you'll be in high demand across the creative industries - the possibilities are endless, and the skills you'll learn on this fast-paced course will be transferrable to many different career or study paths.


Through a series of practical workshops and tutor-led sessions you'll be introduced to the processes, techniques, and finishing skills used by the professional creative industries to make models, props, and prototypes.

You'll use industry-standard materials, techniques, and tools used in media, design, architectural, and marketing industries.

Over the course of two weeks you'll undertake multiple exciting and creative projects that will broaden your skills and knowledge in making.

  • Construction techniques for architecture, design, and media
  • Laser cutting & 3D printing techniques

Your course tutors will offer guidance and support you with your creative applications, as well as feedback on your artwork and offer advice for your future creative studies.

All students with 100% course attendance will be issued with an official Summer Course Certificate detailing course contents and study hours.

Residential package includes:

  • Optional taxi transfer from the airport

If you wish to include accommodation and/or a taxi transfer from the airport in your Summer Course booking, simply select the residential option when you book your place.

All course materials and resources are included in the course fee including your sketchbook and portfolio folder. Also included is all your transport and admission costs for course trips.

You’ll be taught in AUB’s state-of-the-art industry-standard art and design studios and digital suites, with access to our library and online resources.

Also, you’ll leave the course with a physical A3 art portfolio and digital portfolio containing your work for interview submission or future development.
