Course information

Guided by a specialist and experienced tutor, students will expand both their artistic and technical abilities while learning how to develop, create, and share their own animated work. With expert support throughout, young animators are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, and push their ideas further in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Animation has no limits, and this course gives students the freedom to explore that potential. With a strong focus on storytelling, character, and emotion, young artists will learn how to bring their ideas to life through movement and visual narrative – developing work that's expressive, engaging, and personal.

Each week, students will build new skills using industry-standard equipment, software, and techniques essential to the animation industry. Areas of study include 2D animation, character and concept design, story development, storyboarding, and the use of professional digital animation software. Alongside technical learning, students are introduced to the fundamental principles of animation that underpin all successful animated work.

Classes take place in the University’s specialist animation studio spaces, where students work with professional tools and industry-relevant software. This immersive environment allows young animators to feel part of a real creative community while gaining insight into how animation is made at a professional level.

Each term brings something new, so returning animators can look forward to fresh, engaging projects that build on previously learned skills while introducing exciting new techniques and creative pathways. There’s always something different to explore, which means there’s never a dull moment in the studio.

We recognise the enormous potential, enthusiasm, and individuality of young creative artists. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to be themselves, developing their own visual language by building on existing interests while acquiring new skills and techniques that support their growth as animators.

Above all, this is an inclusive, respectful, and encouraging learning space where every student is supported at every stage of their creative journey – empowered to explore their talent and take confident steps toward their future in animation.
