About this course
Ideal for beginners, developing practitioners, or those wishing to explore a range of media in greater depth, the course offers a comprehensive introduction to fundamental art and design principles. Sessions balance theory with hands-on practical experience, helping you build confidence while developing the foundations of visual expression. Throughout the course, you’ll begin creating an individual portfolio of creative work that reflects your growing skills and interests.
Across two terms, you’ll engage in immersive project-based assignments through demonstrations, experimentation, and practical workshops. You’ll explore disciplines including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and construction. Your tutor will guide and encourage you to investigate subjects that develop both technical ability and personal expression.
Suitable for beginners and transitional artists, this course places emphasis on mastering core techniques while nurturing your individual creative voice.
Achieving a Level 1 qualification provides a valuable stepping stone towards further study, including progression to the Level 2 Art, Design and Creative Studies course.
Whether you’ve previously completed a short course at AUB, or are ready to begin accredited study, this programme will support you to refine your skills, strengthen your confidence and take meaningful steps in your creative journey.
The course is taught by professional practising artist and experienced educator Alison Board, whose own creative practice embraces experimentation and boundary-pushing exploration of materials and subject matter.
