Blender gives you the freedom to create. This introductory 10-week course will equip you with all the tools you need to conquer Blender and elevate your 3D design capabilities.

Suitable for adults aged 18+.

Level

Beginners or anyone with some experience who want to refresh or develop their skills further.

None – this is an introductory course. We have no formal academic entry requirements for our short courses.

You're welcome to bring your own laptop; please ensure you have downloaded and installed Blender before you arrive for your first session. Please note the minimum operating requirements on Blender's website.

AUB provide access to Blender during the classroom sessions but please be aware this is only accessible whilst on campus. We recommend arranging private access to the Blender programme at home to greatly support the learning experience between sessions and to practise your new skills; however AUB Academy are not able to provide software for personal use outside the classroom.

About this course

Immerse yourself the world of 3D Modelling with our dynamic introductory course using Blender, one of the most powerful open-source 3D design software packages available. You'll learn to create 3D models, lighting, texturing, and sculpting, as well as produce both still images and animations for use in other applications. This course is ideal for the absolute beginner, so join us and start your 3D modelling adventure.

This cutting-edge course will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to Blender, where you'll explore a wide variety of topics ranging from understanding the user interface, navigation, topology, 3D mesh modelling, rigging and animation, drivers, constraints, modifiers, shaders and texturing, through to rendering in real-time, AI tools, selling your 3D art, and more.

During this very practical and intense course, you'll be introduced to the essential tools and techniques to broaden your skills and introduce you to the boundless possibilities and avenues that the powerful Blender suite offers the creative artist.

Ideally, you'll relish understanding the technical knowledge involved to comprehend the mechanics behind what you do. This is important as you gain a deeper understanding of the programme, which will assist you gaining the crucial problem-solving skills.

Your tutor will welcome you to the extraordinary world of 3D, providing you with the practical knowledge needed and the theory behind it, to fully explore, experiment and advance in your creativity and to shape your own projects.

The Blender course is structured in a way to give you the freedom to choose what you want to learn based on the concepts you’ve been taught. Sessions will include a range of demonstrations, practical tasks, examples, and background theory to help build your knowledge and allow you to continue creating beyond this course. Additionally, your tutor will help you set up an individual plan, to improve your skills and support your future Blender projects.

  • How to use Blender as a beginner without being overwhelmed.
  • The use of industry standard Wacom Drawing Tablets.
  • Knowledge of different industries (architecture, 3D printing, games, metaverse, beauty, etc.)
  • How to research and use references.
  • Mindset building and getting into the habit of creating.
  • Learning production pipelines and workflows.
  • Blender files and assignments (provided by the tutor) used in the talks are included.
  • Additional resources to texture and shade your models.
  • Modelling techniques (Box modelling, Polygon modelling, numbs and curves modelling, sculpting, boolean and modular modelling and more).
  • How to utilise your new skills and advice on securing employment using Blender
  • Additional mid-session assignments, to practise skills.

At the end of the course you'll: 

  • Have a comprehensive overview, understanding and hands-on experience working with Blender.
  • Possess a basic understanding of the possibilities using Blender.
  • Define and determine which areas you wish to pursue.
  • Possess improved artistic skills.
  • Have increased confidence in your own skills and feel inspired.

  • Possess the foundations to continue creating beyond this course.

Will I be assessed?

No, there’s no formal assessment. As the course progresses your tutor will measure your overall performance and offer essential guidance and feedback so you know how you're getting on.   

There’ll be an optional mid-course assignment to enable you to consolidate your skills.
