Study Abroad and Exchange
AUB offers students the opportunity to explore their creative practice while broadening their horizons.
Semester Study Abroad courses are for students and professionals who wish to spend time abroad, developing their creative skills and gaining credits towards their university degree, but don't necessarily want to spend 2-3 years in another country.
Depending on the term you choose to study with us, this Semester Study Abroad Textiles course offers you the opportunity to focus on a variety of specialist areas, including textiles for fashion, textiles for interiors and textiles as art/crafts. Traditional skills are taught together with expertise in design development and production. You will explore and develop your own creative ideas and design concepts through visual problem-solving.
During workshop introductions and through design briefs you will develop surface-print, stitch/embellishment, and construction/manipulation skills. The course allows for experimentation, development and manipulation of fabrics in order to explore technical processes and formulate personal methods of textile creation. The production of a series of samples will encourage the generation of personal and innovative textile responses. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of textile practice through historical, cultural, contemporary and social contexts.
You will be encouraged to develop as an individual textile designer through exploration of usual and unusual materials to produce expected and unexpected outcomes. Through first-hand experience with industry specialists, your professional and technical skills will mature.
Portfolios are required from all prospective candidates who wish to do a Semester Study Abroad course at the Arts University. The portfolio’s purpose is to show us how you communicate and translate ideas visually. Your portfolio will be reviewed by the course leader and a panel who will determine the most appropriate year of study in the course for each candidate.
Other types of programmes, such as bespoke courses are also available. For more information or to apply for a course contact us on +44 1202 363824 or email studyabroad@aub.ac.uk
