Study Abroad and Exchange
AUB offers students the opportunity to explore their creative practice while broadening their horizons.
Semester Study Abroad courses are for students and professionals who wish to spend time abroad, developing their creative skills and gaining credits towards their university degree, but don't necessarily want to spend 2-3 years in another country.
Semester Study Abroad Illustration course will provide you with an active creative environment within which you will be encouraged to experiment, test and develop your work. Depending on the term you choose to study with us, you will explore drawing, painting and printmaking, as well as lens-based, digital, interactive and time-based media; this variety of media reflects the diversity of contemporary illustration. Study units will, therefore, allow you to investigate many aspects of ideas generation, problem-solving for clients, 2D digital imaging, visualising ideas, manipulation of text and various approaches to drawing.
You will be introduced to the notion of Illustration and its genres and learn the basic skills used by illustrators and gain a broad understanding of the subject, looking at the ways in which illustrators have worked in the past and how they work now.
You will explore illustration concepts, context and processes in more depth. You will consider the interpretation of text, narrative, working with fiction, screen-based work, the moving image, interactivity and the professional practice of the illustrator. You will be encouraged to push the boundaries of your practice and will have the opportunity to engage in both cross-course collaboration and external opportunities.

Portfolios are required from all prospective candidates who wish to do a Semester Study Abroad course at the Arts University. The portfolio’s purpose is to show us how you communicate and translate ideas visually. Your portfolio will be reviewed by the course leader and a panel who will determine the most appropriate year of study in the course for each candidate.
Other types of programmes, such as bespoke courses are also available. For more information or to apply for a course contact us on +44 1202 363824 or email studyabroad@aub.ac.uk
